We have added more pictures and information. We have also started a regular post providing Japan rail enthusiasts updates. See the latest Rail enthusiast update here or you can see on the railfan website blog section, If you have subscribed for our Newsletter and ticked Explore Japan's Railways (or subscribed on the rail fan site) we will send you an email, from the next issue, when it is published.

"Come to Japan and escape the crowds"

We are not joking...although over tourism has become a major talking point in Japan, there are thousands of places which only see a few or no inbound tourists (but plenty of local tourists). See our main article below, and also the featured posts, which are all of scenic / interesting rail trips.

Planning your 2025 trip to Japan?

Surprising to us is that our 2024 Japan calendar has and continues to be a popular post, and we know from clients and propsective clients that many of you are thinking about 2025, so we have published our 2025 calendar, see our recent posts section below.

Seeing and experiencing the real Japan and beating the crowds (or at least the foreign tourist crowds)

Japan has been seeing record numbers of inbound tourists, even outside the busy Sakura Season. The weak Yen together with revenge tourism is no doubt helping, together with the many often AI produced or photoshopped  too good to be true pictures.

"Over tourism and over crowded sites" including many areas in Japan has also been featured in the international news.

But...in Japan there are far more places where you will see only a few or no foreign tourists, that are accessible by train and public transport, and getting to those places will often be part of the experience of your trip (a 2~3 hour train can be 2~3hrs of sight seeing taking a local or limited express train)

Some good examples are the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture; Tottori, Matsue & Izumoshi areas in the San'in Region; The Shonai and Tsugaru areas of Tohoku, just to name a few.

Of course planning is important, but that is where TS Japan Rail can help, both with travel ideas and travel planning.
