More than Tokyo...
Tokyo, being the capital of Japan, is naturally the most recognized city,
which unfortunately means that the other neighboring prefectures, except perhaps Kanagawa, are not as familiar to foreign tourists. However, due to the extensive public transportation systems, notably the railways, there are numerous places in this region that are easily accessible for day trips from Tokyo.
You can easily escape
the “big City”
atmosphere of Tokyo
and see some of the scenic landscapes and old towns that are just as much of Japan as the modern city is.. Even in Tokyo (which is a prefecture not a city) you can escape into the wildness but visiting the Oku-Tama area. Even the big cities of Yokohama and Saitama (Omiya) have a different atmosphere to Tokyo
