Shikoku
Buddhist temples, mountains and sea scapes…
Shikoku is the smallest of the 4 main islands of Japan and is separated from the main island of Honshu and the Island of Kyushu by the Seto Inland sea.
Shikoku is the also the least populated of the 4 islands being mostly rural and mountainous.
Nevertheless is has lot to see and also includes the Art Island of Naoshima and Shodoshima and Teshima.
“Shikoku” means four provinces and appropriately today it is made up of four prefectures;
Kagawa (the country’s smallest prefecture), Tokushima, Kochi and Ehime.
★★★★★ 5/5
Shikoku is mostly rural, but has some magnificent mountain, river and sea scenery.
It is also famous for the “Shikoku pilgrimage” which takes in 88 Buddhist temples over a distance of 1,200km – too much for the average tourist but some of the temples are worth visiting.
The view over the Seto Inland sea with its hundreds of islets is also a must see.
