We believe that travelling by rail in Japan, particularly by getting off the shinkansen, visitors will be able to see and experience much more of Japan.
We also try to ensure that much of the travel aspect of your trip adds to your overall experience, rather than just idle time.
Japan is a rail fan’s paradise with many aspects, from high speed trains and intensive urban networks to freight and rural lines and a lot of older aspects including steam. TS Japan Rail can help you discover all of these and more.

Hello, I am
Stephen Turner.
Stephen Turner is originally from the UK but has been living and working in Japan for over 30 years. Tokyo, where he has spent more than half of his life, has become his home.
Since his childhood, Stephen has been a railway enthusiast. He has travelled extensively in Japan. As railways are an efficient means of transportation throughout the country, he has had ample opportunities to experience Japan’s extensive railway network.
How TS Japan Rail Began: A Passion for Trains and Japan
With his vast knowledge of Japanese railways and travel planning experience, Stephen founded TS Japan Rail in August 2019. His passion for both Japan and rail travel drives him to provide visitors with an opportunity to explore the unique blend of tradition and modernity that defines the country.
He is also very keen to show off the many aspects of the railway system in Japan to visiting rail enthusiasts.
The philosophy behind TS Japan Rail is that travel should be an integral part of the experience when visiting Japan, a sentiment you will frequently encounter on our website and social media posts. This belief serves as Stephen’s motivation for establishing TS Japan Rail and how it serves its clients.
Stephen continues to travel extensively to add to his and the company’s travel ideas and keeping TS Japan Rail’s knowledge base up to date.
