Kyushu
Kyushu is the 3rd largest island and is situated south of Honshu.
Kyushu is made up of 8 prefectures, Fukuoka, Kita Kyushu, Oita, Saga, Nagasaki and Kumamoto in the north. Kagoshima and Miyazaki are in the south of the island.
Fukuoka is the largest city and
Kyushu’s business center.
The other major cities that we think are worth visiting are Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Kagoshima and Oita.
The cities of Beppu and the Moji area of Kita Kyushu are also good places to visit.
Kyushu is mainly a rural island with lots of scenic mountainous, river and sea scapes to be seen.
Kyushu
Japan’s most active volcano, Mt Aso is in Kumamoto, and when safe can be visited close enough to see into the large crater. Not far from Miyazaki is Aoshima Island which is famous for an interesting geological feature known as “devil’s washboard” (Oni no Sentakuita).
